Sustainability and Climate Action
Our Commitment to a Greener Future
The Department for Education (DfE) has outlined a sustainability strategy to ensure that primary schools are equipped to tackle climate change and inspire action.
At Tatsfield Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for a sustainable future while taking practical steps to reduce our environmental impact. Our approach aligns with the Department for Education's sustainability and climate change strategy, which focuses on four key areas:
🌱 Climate Education
We are:
- Embedding climate and sustainability topics across our curriculum
- Providing opportunities for pupils to learn about the natural environment through hands-on experiences
- Encouraging pupils to think about environmental issues
- Supporting our pupils to understand green careers and the skills needed for a sustainable future
♻️ Working Towards Net Zero
We are:
- Monitoring and reducing our energy usage across the school
- Reviewing our procurement practices to prioritise sustainable suppliers
- Implementing energy-saving measures throughout our buildings
- Working towards establishing a comprehensive climate action plan
🌿 Creating a Better Environment
We are:
- Developing our school grounds to support wildlife and biodiversity
- Reducing waste and promoting recycling throughout our school
- Working towards eliminating single-use plastics
- Encouraging sustainable travel to school where possible
- Reviewing our approach to school meals, considering sustainability and reducing food waste
🤝 Working Together
Creating a sustainable school requires the involvement of our entire community. We welcome input and ideas from:
- Pupils and their families
- Members of staff
- Governors
- Local community partners
