Sustainability and Climate Action

Our Commitment to a Greener Future

The Department for Education (DfE) has outlined a sustainability strategy to ensure that primary schools are equipped to tackle climate change and inspire action.

At Tatsfield Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for a sustainable future while taking practical steps to reduce our environmental impact. Our approach aligns with the Department for Education's sustainability and climate change strategy, which focuses on four key areas:

🌱 Climate Education

We are:

  • Embedding climate and sustainability topics across our curriculum
  • Providing opportunities for pupils to learn about the natural environment through hands-on experiences
  • Encouraging pupils to think about environmental issues
  • Supporting our pupils to understand green careers and the skills needed for a sustainable future
♻️ Working Towards Net Zero

We are:

  • Monitoring and reducing our energy usage across the school
  • Reviewing our procurement practices to prioritise sustainable suppliers
  • Implementing energy-saving measures throughout our buildings
  • Working towards establishing a comprehensive climate action plan
🌿 Creating a Better Environment

We are:

  • Developing our school grounds to support wildlife and biodiversity
  • Reducing waste and promoting recycling throughout our school
  • Working towards eliminating single-use plastics
  • Encouraging sustainable travel to school where possible
  • Reviewing our approach to school meals, considering sustainability and reducing food waste
🤝 Working Together

Creating a sustainable school requires the involvement of our entire community. We welcome input and ideas from:

  • Pupils and their families
  • Members of staff
  • Governors
  • Local community partners
